Film4 showing horror film ‘so bad it’s good’ airing on Film4 tonight | Films | Entertainment
A cult horror flick branded as “so bad, it’s good” and featuring Paul Bettany takes centre stage on Film4 this evening.
Legion, which arrived in cinemas in 2010, presents an apocalyptic tale where the Archangel Michael shields a pregnant waitress named Charlie and her unborn baby – destined to be humanity’s salvation.
The plot unfolds as God seeks to obliterate mankind for its sins, unleashing possessed beings (zombie-angels) who descend upon a remote roadside eatery.
The film has garnered favourable feedback, with audiences hailing it as a “cult classic” whilst others describe it as “so bad, it’s good”.
On Rotten Tomatoes, one enthusiastic review said: “This movie was such a good time – a dark apocalyptic style movie with the ages old battle between heaven and hell, literally and biblically.”, reports the Mirror.
“Cast with the perfect set of strangers, who all end up at the same diner with their own drama and stories. Love these types of scripts, they can be so much fun when written right and I loved this cast of misfits.
“I love that the whole move is set in a diner, of course in the middle of nowhere. It gives the perfect creepy vibe from some of the old-school horror movies I’ve grown up with.”
The critic went on: “The characters are perfectly written and cast, the actors crush it in the best way, and I love the assortment of demons that eventually come… especially the ice cream man with the long arms and razor claws.
“And then we have the sweet old lady that turns feral, climbing on ceiling; she is such a treat. Great watch for anyone who loves a great cast and a great storyline of our favourite type of thriller movies – good vs evil.”
Another added: “This movie is an underrated classic. While not very scary for a horror movie, it is quite charming and hilarious.
“I find this movie shoots for the moon in many ways and while at times it can be dialogue heavy, it absolutely delivers in terms of just over-the-top, wacky action.
“Of course Paul Bettany does his thing as always. If you have an hour and forty [minutes] to kill, just chuck this on and let yourself have some fun.”
A third viewer warned: “If you can’t handle demons and crazy evil possessions – don’t watch the film. If you’re a hardcore Bible reader, don’t watch the film – it won’t match up. Otherwise, grab a [beer] and enjoy.”
A fourth said: “I believe critics have no idea what audiences like. We go to a movie to be entertained. They go to the movie to dissect it. Legion is a religious movie about two angels – and the good one won.
“This country started with a religious movement. Today’s so-called experts are removing religion from our lives by demonising it. It looks to me in today’s world we need more religion and less dumb ass critics, just saying.”
Another added: “This movie came so close to being either so bad, it’s-good, or ridiculously awesome, but it just ended up being a shallow, boring and uninspired slog.”
Legion is on Film4 at 11.05pm on Friday, January 9.
