Fix kinks in your rug with simple but bizarre method using ice

If your rug has kinks in it and you’re constantly tripping over the corner, there is a quick hack to make it look as good as new.

Straightening a rug that kinks can be challenging. Often, this issue stems from the weaving process and is particularly common in long, antique, or handmade rugs. In certain instances, the problem may arise from stretched threads, although in which case washing the rug might be beneficial.

Howver, if this has not worked, one technique using ice could be the answer. Taking to TikTok, Haylea aka @haylea_at_reedlane shared her simple home hack that requies very little time, effort and money. All you need is ice, something heavy and a tea towel.

She explained: “This is a hack of all hacks to get rid of those annoying kinks in your rugs. Whether it be a brand new rug or a rug you have had for ages, you just pop on some ice cubes, get something to weigh it down, pop a tea towel on and wait 10 minutes.”

In the video, the home enthusiast uses a mug as her heavy item to keep the rug in place. She added: “And just like that, it is all gone. It is so quick and simple to do.”

In addition, if you are moving house – or moving a rug from one room to another – don’t keep it stored away for too long. This is because if you have had a rug in storage or rolled up for a long time, it will more likely develop kinks and folds that prevent it from lying flat. Not only does this not look good, it ruins what you’ve just spent your hard earned money on.

It’s crucial that if you have this issue, you fix it as rugs in busy areas of the home can easily become bunched up or curled at the edges in places such as entryways or hallways – and the last thing you want to do is trip over, or have your kids trip over.
