Food storage hacks and how to create more freezer space

Running out of freezer space can get quite annoying especially when you’ve just done a food shop.

Often fiddling around with the food in your freezer requires a lot of strategy, if not a game of Tetris which you didn’t really sign up for.

But now running out of space doesn’t have to be a chore as one TikTok user revealed a handy hack to swerve you out of trouble after each shopping trip.

According to @carlascleaninghacks, who boasts 52,400 followers on the platform, you can create much more space using freezer bags.

In a recent video shared with her legion of fans, she captioned the post: “Creating more freezer space with ziplock bags.”

Meanwhile in the clip, she said: “Now some people might call this an addiction.” In the brief five-second clip, the woman can be seen loading up her produce in the bags, from chicken pieces to sausage rolls.

While she doesn’t show how she then places them into the freezer, removing all the contents out of their original packaging is known to create a lot of space.

Since it was posted, it garnered dozens of likes and one person who commented: “Such a good idea – boxes can take up so much unnecessary space.”

There are plenty of ways to make the most of your storage at home. Previously, it was revealed how you can “carve up” extra space with an “easy” no-waste hack.

Making extra space in your freezer can seem impossible without removing food items, but according to Birds Eye ambassador and food waste expert, Kate Hall, it is possible by simply reorganising it.

No matter whether you have a chest, drawer, or upright appliance, some clever re-shuffling is all you need to make your freezer produce more accessible while maximising space.

The food waste expert said: “Freezers can often be challenging places to navigate and organise when you have a busy lifestyle or a big family.

“It can be hard to fit the weekly shop in there all at once and jammed-in packages can often rip and tear from the ice, meaning the likes of frozen veggies and fruits can be found in all sorts of crevices.”
