Former James Bond speaks out on returning as older 007 in Amazon reboot rumours | Films | Entertainment

Amazon MGM Studios has complete creative control of the James Bond film franchise after a near $1 billion deal with EON Productions.

Since the shocking news, the streaming giant has announced that Harry Potter and Spider-Man producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal will be producing Bond 26.

The question is, though, who will they cast as the new James Bond?

Casino Royale auditions runner-up Henry Cavill was the favourite when Amazon boss Jeff Bezos polled fans.

Yet what’s to stop a former Bond returning to the role as an older man? After all, Sean Connery did it twice with 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever and 1983’s unofficial Never Say Never Again. Pierce Brosnan, the post-Cold War Bond of the 1990s, has confessed he would be interested in returning as an older 007. The 71-year-old star has now given a new update on those rumours.

Appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show this weekend, Brosnan shared: “No-one’s spoken to me about it. I’ve heard all of the rumours. Listen, they know where to find me. Let’s see where the wind takes us.” Perhaps Amazon MGM will treat Bond like Warner Bros treats Batman by having multiple Bonds at once? You could have the main 007, young Bond and an older version of the spy having their own adventures in their own separate universes simultaneously. That would be much more welcome to fans than boring spin-offs without 007, which nobody wants.
