FPL injury update: Haaland, Gakpo, Son, Konsa, Ndiaye latest for GW26 | Football | Sport
Fantasy Premier League bosses will be weighing up their selections ahead of a critical few days in the Premier League. All 20 sides are in action over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Gameweek 26 – but players with injury niggles could be handled carefully, given there is a full schedule of midweek action to follow.
Stars like Bukayo Saka and Dominic Solanke remain ruled out, while a number of other key FPL players face a race against time to be fit. Indeed, both Pep Guardiola and Arne Slot are sweating on players ahead of the crunch clash between Manchester City and Liverpool at the Etihad.
Express Sport brings you the latest team news and injury updates on those players who face a race against time to be fit….
After looking in some discomfort in the closing stages of City’s win over Newcastle last Saturday, the star was left out of the harrowing defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday. The development has sparked debate as to whether Pep Guardiola was reluctant to risk his top scorer ahead of the visit of Liverpool – or Haaland wasn’t fit enough to feature.
Guardiola’s post-game assessment suggested a decision on the Norwegian could go down to the 11th hour. “Erling, yesterday, tried to train after the action against Newcastle in the last minutes,” he said.
“Probably, with the scans)we have done, it’s fine but he has discomfort walking, for example with stairs. We spoke yesterday and this morning and he said he’s not ready, he doesn’t feel good.”
Cody Gakpo
While Haaland appears a major doubt, visiting forward Cody Gakpo is in line to make his return at the Etihad. The Dutchman picked up a knock in the 2-2 draw at Everton last week and has since missed the win over Wolves and Wednesday’s draw at Aston Villa.
But ahead of the clash at Villa Park, Slot suggested Gapo was nearing a return, saying: “Cody is close to being back.”
Son Heung-min
Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday lifted the pressure on Ange Postecoglou, but the victory seemed soured when skipper Son limped off late on. However, the Aussie manager has since moved to allay any fears of him missing the trip to Ipswich with his side having enjoyed a rare break from midweek action.
Speaking after the game about Son, Rodrigo Bentancur and Kevin Danso, he said: “They all got sort of knocks. I don’t think it is anything significant. The beauty of it now is we can actually get them to recover instead of trying to patch them up and throw them out again.”
Ezri Konsa
The defender has been out since suffering an injury in Villa’s FA Cup win over Tottenham on February 9. This week, Unai Emery stopped short of confirming he’ll return to the squad for Saturday’s home game with Chelsea but did say the centre-back would be in contention.
Iliman Ndiaye
Amid the chaos of the Merseyside derby, a potential crucial injury blow to Everton slipped under the radar. The Senegalese international limped off in the first half of the thrilling 2-2 draw and won’t be ready for Saturday’s game with Manchester United.
“Ili’s got a medial ligament injury. It’s not looking great at the moment,” said manager David Moyes. The defender is said to be facing a period of between three and 10 weeks on the sideline, depending on the severity of the issue.
