Full list of 59 cars facing £2,745 rise in car tax under new VED bands | Personal Finance | Finance

Some 59 cars are facing a mammoth £2,000 hike in Vehicle Excise Duty under the new Labour Government, it has been revealed. High-end and performance models emitting over 255g/km of CO2 will experience a colossal tax rise of £2,745, soaring to £5,490 annually.

Starting April 2025, while the standard road tax rate will only surge by inflation, any vehicle purchased post this date emitting more than 75g CO2 per kilometre will be slapped with an escalated road tax bill. The sweeping decision to double first-year road tax rates for every higher CO2 band is Labour’s bid to inject an additional £400m into treasury coffers next year – with sights on a substantial £1.7bn by decade’s end.

The budget review document details: “The government recognises the disproportionate impact of the current VED Expensive Car Supplement threshold for those purchasing zero-emission cars and will consider raising the threshold for zero-emission cars only at a future fiscal event, to make it easier to buy electric cars.”

And the list of vehicles surpassing the 255g CO2/km mark includes names like Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Audi R8, and Bentley Continental among others, reports Birmingham Live.
