‘Genius’ backpacking tip saves couples money on luggage fees | Travel News | Travel

travel lover has impressed social media users after sharing her “genius” hack that saves money for backpackers travelling with a companion.

Posting on TikTok as @taytayrjh, the blogger explained how you could save on luggage fees if you’re flying with a friend. Taylor dubbed the trick “the best money saving luggage hack” before demonstrating how she cut costs using the “best hack ever.”

In her video, Taylor explained: “If you’re travelling with another person and you’ve got two 40-litre backpacks, we bought one of those laundry storage bags just on Amazon. It cost us what, like, 5 euros or something. We brought it out and put both our backpacks in it. We bought one check luggage, checked it in, and it worked fine. So we just saved $100. Fabulous.”

Viewers loved what they saw. The video racked up over 17,000 views and hundreds of likes. Replying to the popular video, one impressed social media user praised the hack, commenting: “Genius.” Another fan replied: “Works so good!!”

Someone else commented: “Most Asian airlines you can pay for 1 20kg bag and split it over 2 bags anyway.” Regardless of which airline you’re flying with, it’s always advised to check luggage requirements with your airline before travel.

In more travel news, The Mirror recently highlighted an easy trick passengers can use that means their suitcase is likely to be among the first off the plane and prevent long wait times at baggage reclaim.

The tip was shared by Hadleigh Diamond, Commercial Director at SCS Chauffeurs. He said: “Clients regularly tell us that the difference between a good travel day and a stressful one often starts with baggage reclaim.

“If you’re standing waiting for 30 minutes while the carousel clunks out someone else’s bags, your trip can feel so much longer. But the fragile sticker trick is a game-changer — and it often works.

“We’ve heard this tip from both airport ground staff and frequent flyers. You don’t need to lie or explain — just politely ask the check-in agent to add a ‘fragile’ sticker to your suitcase. It’s not guaranteed, but more often than not, your bag is among the first out. We’ve seen it work time and time again.”

While the trick does not guarantee success every time, airport ground handlers typically load the fragile baggage last when filling the aircraft’s hold, preventing the items from being crushed under heavy loads. As such, your luggage might be first off the plane, and the tip could shave a few minutes off your wait time when you arrive at your destination, meaning you can start enjoying your holiday that much earlier.
