Gerwyn Price releases furious statement after Luke Littler defeat and hits out at chiefs | Other | Sport

Gerwyn Price took to social media to release a furious statement after suffering yet another defeat to Luke Littler in the Premier League. A week on from Price’s unfortunate choke at 5-0 up in the final, the pair once again met in the semi-final stage of night eight in Berlin.

It wasn’t as crushing for the Iceman, with Littler progressing to the final by virtue of a 6-4 victory. But after the match, Price was unable to hide his frustration during a rant about the ‘shocking conditions’ at the Uber Arena in the German capital.

Posting on Instagram, Price said: “So bloody frustrating. Luke’s playing really well atm. But to have to play in such shocking conditions it’s so bloody hard.

“But nothings ever done… Maybe it be easier to play on the beach front outdoors every week so we knw Wa to expect… Thanks all for the amazing support once again you really are amazing. Onto next week it is.”

It’s unclear exactly what Price’s grievance is, with some suggestions he might’ve been referring to a breeze inside the 17,000 capacity arena. Players have complained about draughts in the past, as it impacts the flight and trajectory of shots.

Regardless, Littler ended the night as winner, leaving the Nuke in cruise control of the table. He was boosted by Jonny Clayton’s early exit, but the Welshman remains second in the table. Former world champion Price and Michael van Gerwen make up the remainder of the play-off positions.

Littler, reacting to his victory, told Sky Sports: “It wasn’t too bad tonight. I played very well and the crowd were on my side at times. Them 170s, Wayne said to me last week I am reeling it out, so I reeled them back in twice for him.

“I think this is the best I have played on a night. I said coming into this, if I win my first game then I will change my darts into the second game to get a few people talking.

“I got people talking in Saudi that is when I used them, but Target went back and did a few adjustments to them because it wasn’t quite right. But they worked tonight. I knew if I won the night I would go top. Tonight, has just gone really well. I am glad to have the weekend off and onto Manchester.”
