Greenland sent ‘military reinforcement’ after Trump threats | World | News

Denmark is sending military equipment and advance troops to Greenland, a Danish news outlet reports. On Wednesday, news site DR wrote that the European country and NATO member was “sending military equipment and advance troops to Greenland”.

The advance command’s task is, they said, to ensure that the logistics and surroundings are ready to receive more forces at a later date. This comes just days after Washington refused to rule out the possibility of taking the Danish territory by force, with the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, warning an attack by the US on Greenland would mean the end of the NATO alliance. Frederiksen said in an interview with Danish broadcaster TV2: “One should take the American president seriously when he says that he wants Greenland. If the US chooses to attack another NATO country militarily, then everything stops, including NATO and thus the security that has been established since the end of the Second World War.”

European officials have pledged their support to Greenland after Donald Trump restated his desire to take control of the semi-autonomous Danish territory. The promise of support comes amid suggestions that the island could become a strategic target following the move to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer was among those who voiced support for Frederiksen. He told Sky News: “I stand with her, and she’s right about the future of Greenland.”

France and Germany also said they stand by Greenland. The EU’s executive arm, the European Commission downplayed comparisons between Trump’s designs on Venezuela and Greenland.

The diplomatic response highlights a growing commitment to defend the island’s sovereignty against international pressure. Authorities have indicated that Greenland may be the next objective in a broader geopolitical strategy, prompting Europe to reinforce its alliance with the territory to maintain its current status.

As the report from the Danish news outlet emerged, the US President posted on Truth Social:”The United States needs Greenland for the purpose of National Security. It is vital for the Golden Dome that we are building. NATO should be leading the way for us to get it. IF WE DON’T, RUSSIA OR CHINA WILL, AND THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

“Militarily, without the vast power of the United States, much of which I built during my first term, and am now bringing to a new and even higher level, NATO would not be an effective force or deterrent – Not even close! They know that, and so do I. NATO becomes far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the UNITED STATES. Anything less than that is unacceptable. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT”
