With spring in touching distance, many of us are starting to think about summer sunshine and holidays. And with this the panic sets in to ensure our legs, arms and bikini line are smooth and stubble-free (if that’s your inclination, of course).

While many of us tend to turn to razors for a budget friendly solution, it often leaves us with sore skin and razor bumps, especially if prep hasn’t been properly done.

But we’ve come across a deal on Amazon which is sure to be relatively money-saving as the years go on as we ditch our disposable razors. Braun’s Silk-épil 9 Flex SkinSpa is currently on sale for £158.32 down from £369.99 on Amazon in its tinted gold design and promises up to four weeks of smoothness after just one session.

While it doesn’t deliver the same sort of longevity hair loss/removal devices like more popular IPL tools – such as the Philips Lumea Series 9000, £359.99 at Boots, and FOREO’s PEACH™ 2 go Advanced Travel-Friendly Hair Reduction IPL Device with Skin Cooling System, £269 – it’s an ideal option for those who don’t get on with Intense Pulsed Light technology.

An epilator essentially works similarly to tweezers as it removes hair from the root using rotating ‘tweezers’ but on a big surface area. ‘Ensuring head to toe smoothness’, the Braun gadget contains a body mini shaver, exfoliation brush, massage pad, and epilator that contours and flexes to the body’s curves, capturing ‘short hairs (0;5mm) that waxing can’t’.

The device can be used on wet or dry skin, meaning it can be used before, during or after a shower or bath. It also has a gentle mode for the more sensitive areas with its Smart Touch, making shaving a less trivial task.

If the price of £158 is still a little steep, Boots has slashed the price of the Philips Satinelle Wet & Dry Epilator Series 8000, which is now £64.99 down from £129.99. Similar to Braun’s model, it has a range of heads to ensure the closest shave possible.

Although with over 17,000 reviews on Amazon, it seems the Braun gadget is a hit, with many people sharing how it’s “Definitely worth paying the extra especially if it’s on offer”, with one person citing: “It works really really well, I really like the fact that the head rotates so much which makes it very easy to use, especially around the knee and ankle. You don’t have to worry as much about the hairs pulling in the wrong direction and getting ingrown.”

Although they did add: “That being said, and maybe this is because of the way that I’m using it, but I do usually get ingrown when I use this so I have to make sure I exfoliate a lot in between uses. But it is a very good product, and probably the least painful epilator on the market.”

Another user wrote: “I don’t normally leave reviews for products, but this little magic wand deserves it! Just a point to be aware of, it comes with a shaver (2pin) plug so you’ll need an adapter if you’re in the UK.

“I’ve been epilating for years, and have tried multiple brands and styles, and thought I was happy enough with them… but this is next level. I was sceptical as it only has a single row of tweezers, but its SO quick, it left my legs incredibly smooth, after only a single pass.

“It’s not as noisy as some others on the market (it’s not quiet, but it definitely sounds less like a 16 year old on a moped than others I’ve had), which makes it a slightly less traumatic experience.

“I don’t find epilating particularly painful (more used to it than anything else), while I wouldn’t call it pain free, I would say it doesn’t feel as harsh on your skin.”

The only major complaints regarding this device have been over its plug, with one person echoing: “The Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex itself is excellent, no complaints about the performance. BUT it came with an EU charger instead of a UK one. This is extremely disappointing.”

Although for the most part, most reviews have had a similar sentiment to this review: “What can I say?? It’s amazing! Gone are the days of massively painful epilating. My legs were done in no time, meaning I had some energy left to see if I could bear my underarms being done. I once had them waxed and I tried epilating at home once too but gave up because the pain was IMMENSE! I thought I’d have to give up after one go.

Pop it on the lower speed and it’s perfectly bearable. I now have silky smooth underarms for the first time in thirty years!!! No missed hairs left, no dark shadows from shaving (I have very dark hair). I’m actually in awe of this epilator.”
