Half of Brits consider themselves romantic but this one city tops the list

More than half of UK adults believe themselves to be romantics at heart, according to a recent report. 

With the most romantic day of the year just around the corner, the nation is gearing up to celebrate their relationships with thoughtful gestures and heartfelt expressions. And new research reveales which regions wear their heart on their sleeve.

Topping the charts of love are the residents of Bristol, where 40% of Bristolians openly express affection on a daily basis. Close behind, cities like Manchester, Newcastle, London, and Birmingham are proving that romance is thriving.

Sadly Leeds finds itself struggling to keep up, with only 27% of its residents regularly showing their partners affection, according to the Moonpig report.

Sarah-Jane Porter, global design and licensing director at the card provider, said: “It’s been fun finding out the most and least romantic areas of the country, and I’m sure it will create a great talking point among the nation.”

“Despite the well-known phrase ‘romance is dead’, it’s refreshing to know this isn’t the case,” she added. “People are still showing their romantic side in their relationship. Whether that be through words, actions or meaningful gifts.”

Preparations for Valentine’s Day are only likely to commence a few days prior but the report discovered that 70% were in agreement that it’s crucial to receive a card from someone they’re romantically involved with.

Despite this, the majority of those polled would rather simply spend time together, as 45% named this as the romantic gesture they appreciate the most.

Compared to women, men were 10% more likely to say this was the important thing to them. But overall, when asked to identify their love language, 36% voted for ‘quality time’, making it the top category.

Sarah-Jane Porter added: “Romance isn’t just about grand gestures; it’s found in the little things-like a shared laugh, a handwritten note, or simply making time for one another in our busy lives.”
