Harry Redknapp sends Tottenham nine-word job message with Igor Tudor under pressure | Football | Sport
Harry Redknapp has teased a sensational return to Tottenham with a nine-word message to the club he managed between 2008 and 2012. The north Londoners are currently mired in a Premier League relegation battle and will need to dig deep to ensure top-flight survival between now and the end of the season. Igor Tudor was brought in to steady the ship but the Croatian has endured a nightmare start to his reign, losing every one of his four matches in charge.
Tottenham’s horrendous form has led to speculation that Tudor could be relieved of his duties so a new manager can be appointed with the sole task of avoiding relegation. Sean Dyche has already been touted as an early favourite, while others have mentioned Redknapp as a potential last-ditch solution for Spurs. The former boss, who hasn’t managed a club since 2017, is currently at the Cheltenham Festival with one of his horses competing in the prestigious Gold Cup.
Redknapp was quizzed on Tottenham’s struggles by Sky Sports upon his arrival on Friday and said: “I doubt it will happen. I can’t see myself [going back].
“They’re bang in trouble, I must be truthful. It’s going to be tight at the bottom, isn’t it? Nobody’s going to go in there and suddenly take incredible training sessions. They need somebody to go in there and give them a lift and make them believe in themselves.”
“That’s all it’s going to be about now. A little bit of motivation, really. It’s not going to be about getting out and doing any wonderful coaching sessions with them. It can’t happen.”
Redknapp was then asked if he would consider returning to Tottenham and replied with nine telling words, saying: “They know where I am if they need me.”
Speaking on talkSPORT, Redknapp said: “I got a phone call last week from Daniel, funnily enough. I think I spoke to him once since I left all that time ago, and I was in the car last week and suddenly the phone goes, it’s Daniel Levy.
“I thought: ‘That’s strange’. I was on the phone to him for about half hour, chatting to him and he was explaining what happened to him, and how he got marched out of there, which was really strange.
“And he did say to me: ‘If I was there now, and I’m not just saying it, I would bring you back in until the end of the season, Harry’. So, it would have been interesting.”
Redknapp then joked that he would bring back Jermain Defoe to lead the line, adding: “He’s my first signing! Don’t hold your breath waiting for it to happen, J, because I don’t think I will get the phone call, but if I did, I’d bring him back for sure.”
Tottenham are winless in 11 league games heading into this weekend’s trip to Liverpool, where they could be plunged even deeper into relegation trouble.
