Heartbreaking picture of British siblings, 11 and 13, before they died at sea in Spain | World | News

Two British children who died while on a family holiday in Spain have been named. Siblings Ameiya, 13, and her 11-year-old brother, Ricardo Junior, from Birmingham, tragically drowned at sea.

The siblings, affectionatley known as “Maya and Jubs” were on a family trip to Salou. The children went into the sea at Llarga beach, near Tarragona, before getting into trouble. The siblings, who have been described by loved ones as “beautiful” and “bright”, were given treatment following the “incident at sea” but unfortunately did not survive.

The aunt of the children, Kayla Jasvinder Del-Brocco, said her niece and nephew were carried away from the shore by fierce currents. “They went out to swim together with their dad as they loved the beach,” she said.

The aunt continued: “Mum said ‘don’t be long’ and took her little one to the bathroom. She came back out and couldn’t see anyone. That’s when the nightmare commenced.”

Kayla described Ameiya as “athletic, driven, motherly with her siblings, sarcastic and unique”.

“Ricardo Junior was kind, loving and helpful,” she said. “He wanted to be a YouTuber and would do anything for a few quid. He doted on his mum.”

GoFundMe page has been published to raise funds for Ameiya and Ricardo Junior’s parents. The fundraiser was launched by Ameiya and Ricardo’s cousin Holly Marquis-Johnson, BirminghamLive reports.

Holly said: “During what was meant to be a joyful family holiday in Salou, Spain, Ameiya and Ricardo Junior, lovingly known to their family and friends as Maya and Jubs, heartbreakingly lost their lives in a tragic incident at sea.

The GoFundMe page described Maya and Jubs as ‘beautiful, bright, and deeply loved’ children who had been taken “far too soon”.

She added: “Two beautiful, bright, and deeply loved children, taken far too soon. The pain their family is feeling is unimaginable.

“This fundraiser has been created to help ease some of the financial burden the family is now facing, covering the costs of bringing Maya and Jubs home to the UK, giving them the dignified farewell they deserve, and supporting their parents and loved ones during this incredibly painful time.

“We know that no amount of money can make this right. But together, we can help carry some of the weight.

“If you’re able to donate, even a small amount, or simply share this page it would mean the world. Every act of kindness, every share, every kind word truly helps.”
