The FedExCup Playoffs on the PGA Tour are back with only 70 players left to compete for this year’s title of champion – and a huge cash prize. PGA Tour players have competed in 36 FedExCup events throughout 2024, including all four majors.
With the conclusion of the regular season, this month’s Playoffs will crown the ultimate winner on September 1. Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland is the reigning champion, while Rory McIlroy, who won in 2016, 2019 and 2022, stands a good chance of winning and earning a significant sum of money.

The FedExCup is a season-long points competition on the PGA Tour. The top 70 players following the Wyndham Championship in August advanced to the first playoff event – the FedEx St Jude Championship at TPC Southwind.
Following that tournament, the top 50 players qualify for the BMW Championship in Denver the following week. The top 30 their progress to the Tour Championship finale in Atlanta.
The FexExCup leader begins the Tour Championship at 10 under par, while the No 2 player starts at eight under, No 3 at seven under, the No 4 at six under and No 5 at five under. Players 6-10 start at four under, players 16-20 at two under, players 21-25 at one under and players 26-30 at even par.
The Tour Championship is a straight 72-hole strokeplay event. That means whoever leads at its conclusion wins the tournament and is crowned the FedExCup champion.
Currently, Scottie Scheffler’s six wins this season have him leading on 5,993 points, an impressive 2,000 clear of Xander Schauffele and almost 3,500 in front of Rory McIlroy. The rest of the top 10 is made up of Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Aberg, Sahith Theegala, Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im and Ireland’s Shane Lowry.
Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre and England’s Aaron Rai sit 17th and 25th respectively with Rai triumphing at the Wyndham Championship to secure his maiden PGA Tour title. Rai’s compatriots Tommy Fleetwood (32), Matthew Fitzpatrick (40) and Justin Rose (55) are also headed to the FedEx St Jude Championship, as is Ireland’s Seamus Power (66).
Each event will be shown live on Sky Sports. Coverage of the FedEx St Jude Championship begins at 5pm on Sky Sports Golf this Thursday. The action continues on Sky Sports Main Event from 9.30pm onwards.

The FexEx St Jude Championship runs from August 15-19. The BMW Championship from August 22-25 and the Tour Championship August 29-September 1.
The winner of the Tour Championship takes home a whopping $25m (£19.6m). The second-place finisher is awarded $12.5m (£9.7m) and everyone else in the top 10 gets a payday of at least $1.75m (£1.4m).
