‘I visited best-rated Wetherspoons – but there’s downside
A man visited the “best-rated Wetherspoons” in the UK, and discovered something pretty vital.
Callum Ryan, known as thatonecal on TikTok, is known for making viral videos online. He recently took people on a tour of the “best-rated Wetherspoons” in the UK, which is located in Tunbridge Wells.
In the clip, he explained the popular boozer is located inside an old opera theatre, so it’s super pretty and unique. He said it looks really “cool”, as it’s still made up of all the original seats and booths from the theatre.
There was one aspect that wasn’t quite as impressive though, according to the online reviewer. Callum said: “The only downside is the food is the exact same as every other Wetherspoons around the country. £7.00 for a quick curry and then I was straight to the toilet.”
Callum also noted there’s a sign on the wall, which states the venue still holds an opera show once a year. Not to mention, he said the toilet is quite easy to access, unlike many other Wetherspoons, and this got a “big thumbs up” from him.
Since he shared the video, it’s been liked over 145,000 times, and people were quick to comment too. Some pointed out the pub offers a “different vibe” at night.
One person said: “No way did you come to Tunbridge Wells for our Spoons.” Another wrote: “Tunbridge Wells is the best Spoons. Go there on a Saturday night, and that may change.”
A third also replied: “Such a cool idea to save beautiful buildings.”
The pub, known as the Opera House, can be found on Mount Pleasant Road, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent. It’s open seven days a week, though opening times vary.
According to Trip Advisor, the pub has been rated an average of 3.5/5 by customers. The service and value for money has been especially well ranked by punters.
One person said: “Was advised to come into this old original theatre that’s now a Weatherspoons. The old theatre part is still there such as the seating, the old architecture, steps and you can see where the theatre stage was.
“We only stayed for a drink but it was a pleasant experience and nice to see that it was being used for something else and not just left to rot. It seemed a popular place with lots of people inside.”
Another wrote: “Beautiful building makes this a favourite. The food can sometimes be a little inconsistent but overall it’s Spoons food. Tasty enough and cheap.
“Chicken wings are a personal favourite of mine. Staff are nice enough and it is great for pre-drinks or a cheap night out.”
