‘I was teammates with David Beckham – I’ve seen what Victoria is like’ | Football | Sport

Several of David Beckham’s former footballing colleagues reveal his wife Victoria is far more down-to-earth than many people believe. To the general public, Posh Spice has consistently represented sophistication, the epitome of stylish achievement and natural poise.

However, peel back the media veneer and a different character emerges, warmly described by those who’ve genuinely got to know her. According to multiple ex-team-mates of Manchester United icon David, Victoria isn’t the distant, demanding personality she’s occasionally portrayed as. In reality, she’s welcoming, witty and remarkably laid-back. Wayne Rooney, who featured alongside ‘Golden Balls’ for England across six years, provided a perfect illustration on his podcast.

He recalled on The Wayne Rooney Show dropping by the Beckhams’ residence during David’s Real Madrid stint in the mid-2000s, anticipating sophisticated cuisine but discovering a much more relaxed affair. “I remember years ago we got invited to Becks’ for dinner. It was me, Lamps [Frank Lampard] and couple more players,” Rooney said.

“We went to his house, me and Coleen, we were only 19 or something. We were like, ‘This is weird, what’s happening here?’ We sat there with Becks and Victoria having dinner, it was like… [it wasn’t posh]… we were having kebabs.”

Despite the residence being packed with footballers, Victoria remained the life and soul of the occasion. He added: “She’s such a lovely woman and funny. A lot funnier than people think.”

Another tale emerged from Carlos Pavon Jr, whose father had previously played alongside Beckham at the LA Galaxy. Back in 2007, the Beckhams threw a spirited birthday celebration for one of their sons, featuring trampolines and inflatable bouncy castles.

Pavon Jr, aged 12 at the time, recalled bouncing around with one of the Beckham youngsters when Victoria surprisingly decided to join in. He revealed on the La Pelota Al DIEZ podcast: “I notice the kid’s mum comes in, David’s wife, Victoria. She started jumping with us, and I was like, ‘I can’t believe I’m doing this with Victoria Beckham.’

“So I think that was the funniest thing. Everybody saw when she came in and started jumping with us, so when I came out, I think they all saw my surprised face, like, ‘Wow, that just happened.’ It was really funny.”

Stories such as these demonstrate clearly that Victoria isn’t the frosty, unapproachable star people previously imagined. She’s grounded, ready with a giggle and truly delightful company whether enjoying kebabs or hopping on a trampoline.

David has previously revealed that her wit keeps their 26-year marriage flourishing. United since 1997, betrothed a year afterwards, and wed in 1999, the Beckhams continue to be one of Britain’s most beloved couples.
