‘I’m a make-up artist — avoid creasing on skin with hack for women over 40’

Applying make-up on mature skin can be tricky, with many full-coverage products often accentuating wrinkles and fine lines. As skin ages, foundation and concealer can appear dry and cakey, rather than nourishing, plumping, and firming.

A renowned make-up artist has revealed a technique for achieving flawless skin using minimal product, resulting in a youthful, radiant look without causing the make-up to “crease”. Katie Jane Hughes, 41, originally from England but now residing in New York, shared “the best trick I could ever teach you” for applying concealer. In a TikTok video, she explained: “This trick is going to be about concealer or foundation. The top tip is priming the brush.”

“All you’re going to need is a full coverage concealer and a concealer brush AKA an eyeshadow brush.”

She continued: “Just so you know what you’re getting yourself into, this is an addictive trick. You won’t be able to stop doing it when you try. And it will give your skin the most flawless finish all the while you won’t look like you’ve got any make-up on.”

She advised that for this method to work, one should cleanse their face with a cloth before bedtime to help exfoliate the skin.

Next, apply some concealer on the back of your hand and “smoosh” the bristles of your eyeshadow brush into it until almost no product remains.

Finally, use the brush to gently sweep over areas of your face where you desire coverage.

She further explained that this technique is excellent for concealing any “redness and discolouration” around the nose and mouth.

“This is probably the most viral trick I’ve ever taught. People have tried it have come back to me and been like ‘that is amazing’,” Katie revealed.

She also warned: “If you put thick foundation around your nose it will in fact crease quicker.”
