Insanely short flight between two of world’s most beautiful islands | World | News

An extremely short flight that takes just 15 minutes is becoming incredibly popular with tourists travelling between two of the world’s most beautiful islands.

Tahiti and Mo’orea, two idyllic islands in the French Polynesia archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean, are becoming increasingly popular with tourists – and they are also regular cruise ship stops.

And despite a ferry island taking day-trippers between the two destinations regularly between 5am and 5.30pm most days, there is also a short flight which tourists can take between the two pretty islands – for those who are willing to splash a bit more cash in order to spend more time exploring the hidden gems.

Air Tahiti flights between the two airports take around 15 minutes, and depart on average of four times a day costing around £42 for a one way ticket between Papeete Tahiti Faa’a International Airport and Mo’orea Airport, according to Skyscanner.

Meanwhile the ferry is much cheaper, costing 1,350 Polynesian Francs (£9.54) for a one way ticket on the incredibly scenic journey, which takes between 30 and 60 minutes, according to local ferry operator Terevau.

Mo’orea, home to just 16,000 people according to the latest estimates, is dwarfed in size by neighbouring Tahiti, which boasts an international airport and far more hotels, bars and infrastructure. But the hidden gem of Mo’orea is not to be missed for those taking a trip to this beautiful part of the world, which very few people have the privelege of being able to visit.

The AirTahiti website reads: Moorea, “the sister island of Tahiti, is situated 15 minutes away by plane. You will be enthralled by the beauty of the island renowned for its serenity and a striking change of scenery. The combination of beauty and easy access make Moorea one of the most popular destinations in Polynesia both for the local and the international clientele.”

Both islands boast some of the most beautiful sandy beaches and sunsets in the world, with highlights on Tahiti including the Paofoi Gardens, the Faarumai Waterfalls, the Arahoho Blowhole hot springs and the Municipal Market, a larges and bustling market hall offering local fram products, souvenirs and handicrafts.

Meanwhile over on the less busy island of Mo’orea, you’ll find the Belvedere Lookout, a viewpoint overlooking the panoramic Opunophu Valley, as well as the white sandy beach, the Plage Publique de Temae. History fans can also take a trip to the Tiki Village Cultural Center, while Ta’ahiamanu Beach has been named the best for snorkelling in the clear blue waters.

Plage Publique de Temae, on Mo’orea, has been praised by tourists with one from Plano, Texas, writing on TripAdvisor: “Temae Beach is what you think of when someone mentions Tahiti beaches. Temae Beach is a white-creamy color sand beach with no crowds and beautiful water. I had the beach to myself.”

A second added: “Unbelievable. Sunsets were to die for, the people were so kind. It was a paradise.”

Meanwhile over on Tahiti island itself, tourists highl recommend the Paofai Gardens, with one happy holidaymaker from the UK saying: “We loved walking along the harbour and gardens at sunset.

“The stunning views out to sea and the elctric vibe from the cafes, bars and restaurants was superb. We felt safe and would highly recommend an evening stroll!”
