Iran threatens Trump with ‘new surprises’ as US President reveals ‘me and Ayatollah’ plan | World | News

Iran has issued a chilling threat against Donald Trump, just hours after he appeared to ease tensions with the regime and called off immediate strikes on the country’s power plants. The US President declared a five-day pause on the plan to launch military strikes on power plants in Iran, as he wrote on his Truth Social that the US and Iran “have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East”.

The announcement came hours after he issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Iran to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz. However, senior officials from Iran are reportedly planning “new surprises” for the US President in the next few days, while also claiming no talks have taken place between US and Iranian officials. Tasnim News Agency claimed that a military official from Iran said: “Trump sees all his military options in the failed war as defeated and is thinking of a way out of the deadlock; for this reason, he has dragged the war from his fleeing warships into social networks.”

The official also claimed: “Contrary to Trump’s empty promises, Iran has prepared surprises for the coming days that will reveal the outcome of the war more clearly than ever.”

On Monday, Donald Trump also suggested that once the Strait of Hormuz fully reopens following negotiations to end the Iran war, it could be jointly administered by himself and the next Ayatollah.

Asked who would be in charge of the key waterway in any deal to end the conflict, Trump said: “Maybe me, me and… whoever the next Ayatollah (is).”

He also said Tehran might be willing to abandon its nuclear ambitions as part of a broader agreement to halt the conflict, speaking publicly for the first time since announcing a pause on strikes against Iran’s energy infrastructure earlier in the day.

Mr Trump added that if upcoming talks are successful, the war could be over within a week, before remarking later, “Otherwise, we’ll just keep bombing our little hearts out.”

Talking about the war with Iran, he declared “we have eliminated everything there is to eliminate in Iran, including leaders” as he arrived in Memphis. Mr Trump further said Iran has “one more opportunity to end its threats” towards the US and its allies.

He said: “We are now having really good discussions. They started last night, a little bit, the night before that. I think they are very good. They want peace. They have agreed they won’t have a nuclear weapon. But we will see. We have to get it done.”
