The Israeli military has urged a full evacuation of Gaza City, ahead of its planned expanded operation in the northern part of the city as expectations rose about a full-scale offensive.

The move marked the first warning for a complete evacuation in the current round of fighting.

Defence Minister Israel Katz said that Israel had demolished 30 high-rise buildings, which it accused Hamas of using for military purposes.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously stated that at least 50 “terror towers” had been destroyed, used by Hamas for its operations.

Mr Netanyahu described the demolitions as “only the beginning” of the main intensive operation, signalling an imminent ground incursion.
