Jannik Sinner deserves French Open ban after reaching semi-finals | Tennis | Sport
Jannik Sinner should be banned from the French Open night sessions. Tournament director Amelie Mauresmo courted huge backlash for refusing to put women in the prime-time evening slots, where ticket holders only get to watch one match.
She felt there wouldn’t be enough value in a best-of-three set clash. By that theory, Sinner shouldn’t feature either.
The Italian is playing blink-and-you-miss-it tennis, spending an average of just one hour and 40 minutes on court in his five matches at Roland Garros.
Arrive late or need the toilet? That’s a set gone. Need a drink top-up? That’s another set gone. His motionless prey is barely breathing by the third.
While Carlos Alcaraz is playing with his food, Sinner is guzzling it down and it’s not even touching the sides.
The biggest cheer from the sympathetic Roland Garros crowd during Sinner’s matches is when his opponent wins their first game – and that gruelling task has taken some 55 minutes.
Alcaraz toys with his opponents, often to his own detriment. He brings them close to the net with exquisite drop shots and then attempts outrageous lobs when a clear passing winner is on, just to get the crowd on their feet.
He has the entertainment factor of Nick Kyrgios but with a champion’s mentality. Alcaraz is worth the admission fee alone. But Sinner is quite the contrary.
Nico has the knack
NICO Rosberg needs to be a permanent fixture on Sky Sports F1.
He has the authority and confidence to say exactly what everyone at home is thinking.
It doesn’t matter if you’re Bukao Saka or Max Verstappen, nobody can escape from his wrath.
