Jurgen Klopp lined up for new job with Liverpool facing Arne Slot sack decision | Football | Sport
Jurgen Klopp could be set for a swift return to the dugout amid speculation of a potential return to Liverpool. It comes as his former club grapples with uncertainty surrounding their current head coach, Arne Slot. The former Feyenoord boss, who succeeded Klopp at Anfield, made an impressive start by clinching the Premier League title in his debut season.
However, a rocky start to the current campaign has put him under intense scrutiny. The pressure has been ramped up following Mohamed Salah’s recent admission of a strained relationship with the manager. This has sparked doubts over Slot’s future, with some fans even clamouring for Klopp’s return following his brief hiatus from management.
However, those Liverpool supporters yearning for a reunion with the iconic coach may be left disappointed, as Klopp could soon be back in the managerial hot seat elsewhere.
According to Madrid-based publication El Mundo, Real Madrid are closely monitoring the managerial landscape and see Klopp as a prime candidate to replace Xabi Alonso, should they decide to part ways with him.
Klopp is reportedly on a shortlist that also includes Zinedine Zidane, as meetings are planned to discuss the future of their current coach. Reports suggest that key players, including Vinicius Junior, have a tense relationship with Alonso.
Whether Klopp would entertain a switch to the Bernabeu remains to be seen, but such an opportunity could tempt him back into the dugout.
He has stepped away from the daily grind of coaching since departing Liverpool last summer, instead taking up a position as Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull network of clubs.
Klopp’s departure was fuelled by his dwindling energy reserves, admitting that he was completely drained after dedicating nine years to the Merseyside outfit.
Premier League glory and Champions League success stood out amongst his achievements, along with two Carabao Cup triumphs, an FA Cup victory and a Community Shield win, securing his legendary status at Anfield.
Speaking recently on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Klopp confirmed he wouldn’t take charge of another English side, though he hasn’t completely shut the door on a Liverpool return.
“I said I will never coach another team, a different team, in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool … yeah. Theoretically, it’s possible.”
He continued: “I’m 58, that means I could make the decision in a few years, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what the future brings.”
