Kieran Trippier’s angry reaction after full-time as Newcastle lose to Brentford | Football | Sport

Kieran Trippier, in a fit of frustration, demanded that his Newcastle United team-mates acknowledge and applaud the travelling supporters following another disappointing away game for the Magpies. Trippier, visibly upset, directed senior players to show their gratitude towards the 1,716 fans who had endured yet another weekend of travel chaos due to disruptions on the East Coast Mainline.

The former England full-back’s disgust was evident as he left the pitch, followed by the downcast Newcastle squad. If the performance in the defeat at West Ham had been shocking, this wasn’t much better, with some Sunday League defending on display as Newcastle struggled to handle the inevitable throw-in onslaught despite having several players over six feet tall. This wasn’t an isolated incident.

Newcastle have now only managed four victories in their last 15 Premier League matches, amassing a mere 16 points from a possible 45.

Granted, Newcastle are performing well in the Carabao Cup and Champions League – but their current form is indicative of a relegation battle, and the Premier League table doesn’t lie.

Kevin Schade and a brace from Igor Thiago did the damage here after Harvey Barnes had put Newcastle in front. Dan Burn was also sent off for the visitors on an afternoon to forget.

The Magpies will enter the international break in 14th place, just two points clear of the relegation zone, with a daunting fixture against Man City looming. If they continue to gift goals like this, they could be in for another thrashing.

Newcastle are yet to secure a win on the road in the Premier League this season and are lagging behind in the race for a European spot. These are indeed troubling times.
