Kris Boyd goes in on Rangers and offers Danny Rohl very honest advice | Football | Sport

Kris Boyd has expressed his dissatisfaction with Rangers over the “shambles” that led to Danny Rohl’s appointment as manager at Ibrox. Boyd is particularly critical of the recruitment process which saw both Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat walk away from advanced discussions.

Club chiefs Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe were heavily involved, but chairman Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell have faced criticism for their inability to finalise deals for both Gerrard and Muscat. Boyd dismisses any excuses and rejects the narrative surrounding the failed pursuits.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he stated: “It’s been a shambles. There’s no getting away from it. Rangers will tell you they had to get through a process to get to Danny Rohl.

“I think when you look back to the timing wasn’t right for Steven Gerrard, inside a few hours. He jumped on a plane, he came from Bahrain to London to meet Rangers, then decided a few hours later that the timing wasn’t right.

“Kevin Muscat, well down the road with him, but it felt as if he was the man to take him forward, so why did they not wait?”

Rohl has shared his plans for Rangers and Boyd believes the former Sheffield Wednesday boss must deliver on his promise to start winning games immediately.

He continued: “There’s a lot of inconsistencies, but look, Rohl is the man that’s been named now as the new Rangers head coach, and I’ll say it again, he has to get results.”
