Las Vegas GP F1 race weather forecast after flash floods hit city | F1 | Sport

Flash flooding in Las Vegas is not expected to affect this weekend’s Formula 1 action. Heavy downpours on Tuesday left standing water on some streets of the Nevadan city. Dramatic social media footage showed flooding in several areas of the city, including some clips showing standing water on one small section of the street circuit.

Arriving in Las Vegas on Tuesday evening, Express Sport witnessed cars traversing large puddles several inches deep on the roads close to Harry Reid International Airport, to the south of the city. But it is common for any large and sudden downpours to have such an effect on a city built in the middle of the Nevadan desert.

By Wednesday morning, by which point the sun was shining again, much of the standing water had gone. Express Sport visited the Linq Hotel, where many of the more dramatic social media footage had been taken, and although there was still some standing and running water, the amount had lessened significantly.

F1 declined to comment but it is understood there are no concerns about this weekend’s track action being affected by the weather.

More rain is expected on Thursday evening, when the first two practice sessions are held, and Friday morning. But the forecast is for conditions to improve as the weekend goes on, with a dry race expected on Saturday night local time.

Race officials hope the wet weather will not put off racegoers during a year in which tourism to the gambling capital of the world has declined. Ticket prices have also dropped substantially for this third running of the Las Vegas race with some single-day entries costing as little as £38.

Sales are around 50 percent higher than in 2024 as a result and a spokesperson said the event is “pacing well for a sell-out”. Fans will also have more track action to look forward to this year, with the season finale of the all-female F1 Academy series also taking place as a support event.

Lando Norris is the championship leader by 24 points over team-mate Oscar Piastri who is running out of time to rediscover his best form. The Aussie led the drivers’ standings for six months but his performances have declined at the wrong time with McLaren team-mate Norris now the firm title favourite.

Max Verstappen is still in mathematical contention but would need a significant amount of luck to help him now, 49 points adrift of the leader. The season concludes with the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix after this weekend’s action in Las Vegas.
