Laura Woods mortified after accidental kiss with former darts champion | Other | Sport

Prominent sports presenter Laura Woods has disclosed she was left deeply embarrassed after accidentally kissing a “heart-throb” darts legend on the lips. The awkward mishap occurred after the 38-year-old finished interviewing Steve Beaton, a former BDO world champion renowned for his strikingly handsome appearance and nicknamed the Bronzed Adonis.

Woods, who was working for Sky Sports at the time, says she was mortified after a miscommunication resulted in the pair pecking one another on the lips. Speaking on the Happy Hour podcast, the Londoner said the inadvertent kiss happened when she went to shake Beaton’s hand. As she did so, the 61-year-old leant in for an embrace, with the moment culminating in an unintended kiss.

“If you don’t know who Steve Beaton is, he’s called the Bronzed Adonis,” she said. “He is a beautiful man and he spent his whole career being an absolute heart-throb in the world of darts, which doesn’t sound difficult, does it?”

“When I finished the interview, I went, ‘Thank you so much’ and I went to shake his hand, he went for a cuddle. Because he’d gone for a cuddle, I like put my arms around him and almost went for a kiss on the cheek. He then realised I was in for the kiss so he turned and we kissed on the lips. I was like, ‘Oh my God, what have I done?’ He was like the holy grail and I’d poisoned it. Anyway, I realised and I went back into the truck, sat down.

“The guys were like, ‘Are you alright?’ I had my head in my hands and was like, ‘I just kissed the Bronzed Adonis on the mouth and I felt his beard’. I felt like I’d done the worst thing in the world but now I revel in that.”

Woods departed Sky Sports in 2022 before joining TNT Sports a year later as lead presenter for boxing and UEFA Champions League coverage. She had also previously worked on the talkSPORT breakfast show before departing in the summer of 2023.

Earlier this year, Woods gave birth to a baby boy, Leo, with her reality TV star fiance Adam Collard. The previous year, Woods experienced a miscarriage at just 11 weeks pregnant.

Speaking on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, two-time Love Island contestant Collard said he blamed himself for the tragedy. He said: “I know it’s a terrible way to look at it, but I felt like it was bad karma for me being on dating shows and upsetting too many people.

“I felt like that was some higher power’s way of being like, ‘Well, there you go, that’s what you have to carry’. I was just a cocky little p***k, being a love rat, jumping from girl to girl. I want to show I’m not that many anymore.”
