Lewis Hamilton gets touching tributes from F1 rivals after tragic death of dog Roscoe | F1 | Sport

Lewis Hamilton has received touching tributes from F1 rivals, including George Russell and Charles Leclerc, after sharing the news that his beloved dog, Roscoe, died on Sunday evening after a battle with pneumonia.

The seven-time F1 world champion was by his beloved bulldog’s side from Wednesday, when he posted to social media confirming that his canine friend was suffering a health complication. On Friday, Hamilton posted an update, explaining that Roscoe had been placed into a coma. Tragically, the Ferrari driver was forced to share news of Roscoe’s passing with his followers on Monday, confirming that he died in his arms on Sunday evening.

“After four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe,” Hamilton posted on Instagram. “He never stopped fighting, right until the very end. I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend.

“Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together. Although I lost Coco, I have never been faced with putting a dog to sleep before, though I know my mum and many close friends have.

“It is one of the most painful experiences and I feel a deep connection to everyone who has gone through the loss of a beloved pet. Although it was so hard, having him was one of the most beautiful parts of life, to love so deeply and to be loved in return. Thank you all for the love and support you’ve shown Roscoe over the years. It has been so special to witness and feel. He died on Sunday evening, 28th September in my arms.”

Leclerc, who has his own dog, Leo, also posted a heart emoji in response to the news.

Sending his thoughts, Haas racer Esteban Ocon said: “We are all thinking of you Lewis. We will miss you Roscoe, RIP.” A number of teams also paid tribute. Former team McLaren posted: “Our thoughts are with you, Lewis. Roscoe was a star of the paddock and will be missed.”

Mercedes‘ official account added: “Our thoughts are with you, Lewis. Roscoe brought so much joy to those who met him and he’ll always be a part of our family.” Ferrari also posted a tribute to the four-legged icon, showcasing a selection of photographs of the bulldog in the Scuderia’s F1 motorhome.
