Liverpool dressing room’s stance on Slot being sacked and Salah being sold | Football | Sport

The Liverpool squad are still supporting under-fire manager Arne Slot and would like to see Mohamed Salah repair his supposedly broken relationship with the Dutch head coach. That’s according to first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker. Slot is under pressure with the Premier League champions having only won 26 of their 51 matches across all competitions in 2025 following their disappointing 3-3 draw at Leeds United on Saturday.

And the situation with Salah has not helped matters for Slot, who says he has “no clue” if the Egyptian icon will ever play for the club again. Salah has been left behind in England after Alisson and 18 of his team-mates travelled to Italy to face Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday night. But despite a miserable defence of their title so far this season, and some poor results in Europe to boot, Alisson insists the Liverpool dressing room remains unwavering and full of belief that Slot is the right man to lead the Reds out of their crisis.

Asked if the Liverpool players still support Slot, Alisson replied: “Of course, yes. [Why?] The Premier League last season. Before Arne came in everyone was talking about the huge challenge. It looks like everyone takes for granted what we achieved last season. That should be enough but we believe in his knowledge, his style of playing, that he is capable of helping us to turn around this situation.

“It’s not only about ourselves, but that’s the situation with the club as well, they trust him. It’s not only his responsibility, as a player I share it with him. Of course he’s the man responsible for how the team plays, but we are taking the responsibility and the ones that take action and can change everything.

“It doesn’t make the situation any easier, but we are trying to do that. We have the desire to change the situation and the manager does as well. To get us back on track for the football we were playing last season.”

Alisson was also grilled about the ugly situation with his team-mate Salah. The Egyptian launched into an explosive interview with journalists in the mixed zone at Leeds United after being an unused substitute at Elland Road. Salah claimed he has been “thrown under the bus” by the Reds and that he no longer has a relationship with Slot.

But Brazil shot-stopper Alisson does not want to see Salah leave Anfield in the January transfer window. A move to Saudi Arabia has been mooted for the £400,000-a-week winger as a result of the breakdown in his relationship with Slot.

Alisson said: “It’s not an easy situation. As a group we take it as best as we can. We have a personal relationship with him, I’ve been playing with Mo since I came to Europe, one year at Roma and seven years at Liverpool.

“He’s a great guy, great character, he’s a legend for Liverpool FC. We achieved so many things together and of course personally it’s not something that makes me happy. I will have a conversation with him but it’s going to be private because it’s personal.

“I hope he plays again for the club but that’s a personal situation between Mo and the club. We as his team-mates and his friends we hope the best thing happens for him, but as Liverpool FC players we want the best for the club. We want a win-win for him and the club.”
