Liverpool fans share ‘very distressing’ updates from car incident | Football | Sport
Liverpool fans have reacted to the “distressing” sight of a car driving into fans during the club’s trophy parade. Emergency services have attended the scene after the vehicle was said to have hit a number of supporters.
Merseyside Police have since released a statement confirming they were dealing with the incident. The collision took place just before 6pm, with multiple people reportedly injured. People in the city have been reacting to the shocking development, that followed a day of celebration on the streets of Liverpool.
@brookefulstow wrote on X: “Very distressing to witness a car ramming the crowd on Water Street after the Liverpool Parade. Really hope the people that were hit are ok. Very close call for us.”
@ShazSim21 said: “After a great parade with our fans. Such a sad end to a great day. I’m praying.”
Talking to Sky News, one fan said: “We were like sardines walking up the street, we heard a lot of beeping and screaming and when we looked up there was a black people carrier driving straight towards. Me and my friend pulled her little girl out of the way.”
Since the incident, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has released a statemeny, saying: “The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected.
“I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident. I’m being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate.”
