‘Lovely’ Roman shirt dress looks ‘more expensive than it is’

Knowing what to wear to work when it’s hot and sweaty out can be a challenge, but it’s tough to go wrong with a shirt dress. Especially one that’s in a lovely cool fabric. 

Roman is selling a Blue Linen Look Belted Shirt Dress for £38. The 4.5-starred outfit is surprisingly luxe considering the price tag, with shoppers saying it feels far more upmarket than might be expected. It’s button-down and midi length, with a belt to cinch in the waist that can be adjusted, depending on how much of an hourglass figure is wanted.

The sky blue block colour really stands out and would look ace with a huge floppy sun hat and sandals, or for at the office, a pair of smart shoes and simple jewellery. It’s also available in lime green, for a zingier look. Although made from cotton, it has the feel of linen and the coolness, so it shouldn’t feel heavy or sweaty, no matter how high the mercury climbs. Just remember to sunblock any skin exposed by the flattering V-shaped neckline. 

For a slightly less bright blue linen dress – and this one does actually contain linen (alongside viscose) – try this M&Co Linen Shirt Dress from Debenhams for £40. It’s available in sizes 10 to 28 and has chest pockets.

Belted with a tie, it’s nice and floaty for summer barbecues, but structured enough to wear to meetings too. If a real pop of colour is needed, try the Lipsy Orange Short Sleeve Linen Look Button Down Midi Shirt Dress from Next for £59. It’s pricier, but would look amazing with gold heels for a night out.
