Luke Littler shares plans for £1m World Championship prize money after first purchase | Other | Sport
Luke Littler has opened up on how he plans to spend his World Darts Championship prize money after making his first purchase. The teenage superstar retained the Sid Waddell Trophy by thrashing Gian van Veen in Saturday’s final. It saw him earn a record-breaking £1million in prize money, which was doubled from the 2025 edition of the tournament.
Littler made his first purchase just hours after coming off stage at Alexandra Palace, showing his generosity with ‘£150 worth of pizzas for everyone’. He still has the best part of £1m left to spend, but he’s not in any rush to decide what he wants to do with it. Speaking to the PDC website, the 18-year-old made it clear that he was still caught up in the euphoria of victory and was yet to really think about his winnings.
“It feels amazing, dreams have come true once again at Ally Pally,” said Littler, who has only lost once out of 20 games at Alexandra Palace.
“It’s special to join those greats on that list of players to go back-to-back, it’s amazing. We’ve put so much hard work in, and in a longer tournament this year we’ve definitely felt it. It’s been a long tournament but we’ve come out on top.
“The first winner of the £1m prize, that’s pretty special. I can treat myself to a few things now. I’m still not sure what!”
Shortly after beating Van Veen in the final, Littler suggested that he would spend some money on his football card collection after being introduced to the hobby by his friend Angry Ginge.
“I’m into football cards at the minute so I might have to treat myself to a few boxes, just a few,” he admitted. “Panini cards, Topps cards, anything. It’s Ginge’s fault really, he got me into Whatnot.
“You bid and they will open a box and then they say you get Cristiano Ronaldo, you get a Ronaldo card. I will treat myself to that.”
Immediately after winning the World Darts Championship for the second year in a row, Littler paid a touching tribute to Anthony Joshua and his two friends who were killed in a car accident in Nigeria last week.
Speaking to Sky Sports on stage, he said: “I’ve been wanting to say this. Everyone knows what happened with Anthony Joshua and his guy and his team and his friends. Just like AJ said… the first time was so nice, I had to do it twice.”
Littler will now switch his focus to the Premier League, where he will be joined by Van Veen in an eight-player field. Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen will also be taking part, having secured automatic qualification via the Order of Merit.
Four other wildcard spots were handed out to complete the line-up, with Stephen Bunting, Josh Rock, Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price being invited to play.
