Luke Shaw’s heartbreaking statement as Man Utd star in injury setback | Football | Sport
Manchester United star Luke Shaw has issued an emotional statement revealing that he has suffered a new injury. The England international has endured horrid luck over the past year. He is reportedly set for a few weeks on the sidelines with a new fitness issue.
Shaw missed most of last season with a calf issue. The 29-year-old played for England in the latter stages of their Euro 2024 campaign but suffered a recurrence upon returning to United in pre-season.
According to Manchester Evening News, Shaw’s new injury is separate to that calf problem. The left-back is expected to be out for a few weeks.
In a heartbreaking statement posted on his Instagram story, Shaw wrote: “It’s hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forwards, but unfortunately I’ve had a small setback.
“I’ve been through a lot and had a lot of ups and downs but this has definitely been my toughest period. I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time.
“I understand there is gunna be people frustrated, angry, disappointed and I understand all that. There is no one feeling that more than me at this moment in time.
“But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season. Thank you to everyone for the support. It really doesn’t go unnoticed and I really do appreciate it.”
Shaw made his first appearance of the season in United’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich nine days ago. He has since featured as a substitute in Ruben Amorim‘s two other matches in charge, the victories over Bodo/Glimt and Everton in the Europa League and Premier League, respectively.
It comes after he made only 12 Premier League appearances last season.
Shaw had a chance at starting away to Arsenal on Wednesday had he avoided the injury, given that Lisandro Martinez is suspended for the trip along with Kobbie Mainoo.
He came on as a left-sided central defender against Everton, the same role he fulfilled a few days prior in Europe, in a bid to gradually return to full fitness.
But the left-back has picked up yet another dispiriting injury, and he may not return to the pitch until the New Year.
