Christian Brueckner has been named by German prosecutors as the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

He is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence in Germany for the rape of a 72-year-old woman in Praia da Luz in 2005.

Brueckner lived in the Algarve for several years and was known to have stayed in a cottage near the latest search site.

Despite being under investigation, he has repeatedly denied any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance.

Authorities previously linked him to areas searched in 2023, including the Barragem do Arade reservoir.
