Magic two-button combination clears foggy windscreens fast
A foggy windscreen when you get in your car is massively inconvenient and can slow down your estimated arrival time significantly. After all, you’ve got to faff around to ensure you can actually see out of your window before you drive.
Because, realistically, you don’t want to face a fine or points on your license if you get caught driving before your windscreen has had a chance to properly clear. So what are you supposed to do about it?
If you’re looking for a speedy method that will see you on your way fastest, follow the advice of the experts.
Kwikfit asked an important question to people who are desperately trying to defog their windows. On their TikTok account, they asked: “When your car is misty inside, do you put your heating or air conditioning on?”
Many people will try one of the other, probably heating, hoping that very quickly their windscreen will be clear as crystal and the conditions will be conducive to driving safely.
However, Kwikfit reckons that you “should do both” if you want your car to be defogged as quickly as possible.
The expert said: “Turn your car heater to the max, and direct it to the windscreen, as well as turning on your rear window heater to clear fog from it. Then switch on the aircon to dehumidify the rest of the car. Easy”.
In the comments, someone joked: “I just whack a load of buttons and hope for the best” when they’re clearing their windscreen.
Another wrote: “I tell people this all the time and they’re worried about burning more petrol, which to me works out cheaper than paying the excess of your insurance when you hit something because you can’t see”.
Despite the praise for the method, a TikTok user claimed that when they did this, they were not able to see. They fear it can be really “dangerous” if you try the hack while already driving. So always make sure you’re de-misting your motor before you set off in the first place.
Kwikfit has more tips for those hoping to de-fog their vehicles in a hurry.
One of these methods is to “open the windows slightly to allow cold air to balance temperatures and reduce fogging”.
They also suggest that you “place dehumidifying pods in your car to absorb excess moisture”. It’s important to “inspect door and window seals for potential moisture entry, checking for leaks” as well.
The car gurus recommend that drivers “start the engine early to warm the interior and prevent fogging” in the first place.
Kwikfit warns that “the more humidity there is in your car’s air, the more (and more quickly) the windscreen and windows will fog up when you get in,” so you should take steps to make it a less humid environment so condensation does not occur as much.
So there you have it, plenty of ways to de-mist your car without much time or effort!
