Maika Monroe’s best films to watch next if you loved Longlegs | Films | Entertainment
Maika Monroe, who has been hailed as the new generation’s Scream Queen due to her roles in numerous thrillers and horror films since her debut in 2012, is set to star in a new spine-tingling film titled Longlegs, releasing this Friday (July 12).
The film will feature a showdown with Nicolas Cage, who portrays a serial killer.
Set in the 1990s, Maika plays the role of rookie FBI agent Lee Harker, assigned to solve an unsolved case involving a Satanic serial killer known as Longlegs (Cage).
As the investigation unfolds, Lee finds herself increasingly entangled in the killer’s web, promising to keep viewers on tenterhooks.
In celebration of the film’s release, here are four of Maika’s most terrifying films that you should add to your watchlist.
The Guest
The Guest marked Maika’s introduction to the thriller genre over a decade ago.
The plot revolves around a US soldier named David Collins (Dan Stevens) who unexpectedly visits the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in combat.
However, after a series of mysterious deaths occur during his stay, daughter Anna (Maika) begins to question David’s true identity.
The movie can be streamed on both Netflix and Prime Video.
It Follows
The 2014 horror film, It Follows, tells the chilling tale of Jaime ‘Jay’ Height, a young woman who becomes the target of a mysterious entity after a sexual encounter.
Plagued by eerie visions and an unshakeable sense that she’s being followed, Jay and her friends embark on a quest to uncover the truth, resulting in numerous jump scares.
The film has since garnered a cult following, with many dubbing it a modern classic in the horror genre. It Follows is available for streaming on Prime Video and can be watched for free on ITVX.
Greta
A gripping psychological thriller from 2018, Greta will keep you on tenterhooks throughout its mind-bending plot. Isabelle Huppert stars as Greta, a piano teacher and former nurse who forms a friendship with Frances McCullen, played by Chloe Grace Moretz.
However, Frances soon discovers that Greta isn’t all she appears to be. Maika Monroe portrays Erica Penn, Frances’ friend and roommate who gets embroiled in the ensuing chaos as she tries to help Frances.
The film serves as a stark reminder not to judge a book by its cover, as people may not always be what they seem. Greta is available for viewing on Netflix.
Watcher
The plot of Watcher kicks off with an American couple, Julia (played by Maika) and Francis (portrayed by Karl Glusman), relocating to Bucharest and moving into a new flat featuring a large window.
As they start to adjust to their new surroundings, Julia grows suspicious that an elderly man from the opposite building is spying on her.
The story then unfolds as Julia desperately tries to convince others about her suspicions, leaving viewers in suspense over whether the man is the infamous ‘Spider killer’ terrorising the city or if it’s all a figment of Julia’s imagination.
Watcher can be streamed on NOW TV with a premium subscription.
