Man City leaving Liverpool red-faced with four transfers after FSG call | Football | Sport

That is despite the Reds seemingly in need of a new left-back, with Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas both struggling for form. With Slot having previously been vocal about needing a new ‘No.6’, Liverpool had been tipped to swoop for a midfielder with Ryan Gravenberch looking fatigued in recent games.

In the meantime, City bosses have been active in their bid to address the club’s slump in form. Pep Guardiola’s side are currently sixth in the table, and face a fight to make the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The Premier League champions appear to be closing in on the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush. The clubs reportedly reached a verbal agreement over a £59million fee for the Egyptian forward, who has scored 15 Bundesliga goals this season.

Brazilian teenager Vitor Reis has also flown to England and is expected to sign on a permanent deal after undergoing a medical. The Palmeiras man had initially been expected to stay in South America until after the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer, but City have pushed for an immediate deal.

Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov is also expected to move to the Etihad from Lens. City are set to pay £33.6m fee for the 20-year-old centre-back, who has impressed in his 31 appearances for the club.

And they may not be done there. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, City have now made contact with Juventus over a potential move for Andrea Cambiaso.

The pursuit of the Italian international appears to be a reaction to developments over Kyle Walker, with Guardiola confirming that the right-back has requested to leave the club. City’s decisive action is only likely to further anger Liverpool supporters, already disillusioned by the lack of backing for Slot.

Despite the Dutchman having overseen a formidable run of form both domestically and in Europe, new signings have not been forthcoming. Only Federico Chiesa arrived in the summer for the 2024/25 campaign from Juventus, but has struggled to contribute amid form and fitness issues.

Georgian keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili was signed on a permanent deal, but then immediately loaned back to Valencia. He is now set to arrive in Merseyside at the end of the season.

FSG have protested that January deals are difficult to pull off, but City are proving that may not be the case after all.
