Man makes bizarre 8-word confession after crashing into police car | World | News
A man who purposefully crashed into a police car had a bizarre eight-word answer when confronted by an officer. Keajion Jennings, 28, was caught on bodycam footage driving directly into the vehicle while it still had emergency lights on in Illinois, USA. The officer who had been driving it had already disembarked and was approaching the door of another car he had pulled over, KSDK reports. In response to public demand, Fairview Heights Police released video from the incident, which documented the dramatic impact of the seeming unprompted violence, with the emergency vehicle leaking smoke and its airbags inflating.
After the crash, Jennings was filmed approaching the officer and innocently asking: “What happened?” To which the officer replied: “You tell me.” The 28-year-old then told the officer that he needed a new car, before admitting that he had been drinking and had taken weed pills. Jennings then confessed: “I did that on purpose, sir. I’m bored.”
He also said that he had car insurance but didn’t know whether it would cover the self-inflicted crash. The 28-year-old proceeded to follow the officer’s orders as they awaited an ambulance and police back-up vehicle at the scene.
Jennings was eventually taken into custody at St Clair County Jail in southern Illinois.
There were other passengers in the police car, none of whom were injured, according to reports.
The officer had been in the process of speaking to a couple who were pulled over because of an expired license plate sticker, for which they received a warning.
Jennings inflicted over $10,000 (£7,500) of damage to the police vehicle by ramming into it, the Belleville News-Democrat reported.
He is facing charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and criminal damage to a government-supported property.
St Clair County reportedly filed a petition to detain the 28-year-old before his trial on the grounds that he poses a threat to community safety.
