Man Utd can send three players to Liverpool to seal Alexis Mac Allister swap deal | Football | Sport
Pulling off a successful move would represent a monumental challenge for United, given the intense rivalry between the two sides. They may be forced to pay over the odds to get a deal done if Liverpool are even willing to entertain their advances at all. Alternatively, the Red Devils could try to sweeten the deal by sending one of their own players the other way.
Express Sport takes a look at three potential candidates…
Kobbie Mainoo
Mainoo would provide Liverpool with a like-for-like replacement for Mac Allister, while having the added benefit of being younger with higher potential for growth.
However, his resurgence under Michael Carrick suggests that United would be highly unlikely to send him to Liverpool of all clubs.
Mainoo may also resist any attempt to ship him off to Anfield, given that he has supported the Red Devils throughout his life.
Manuel Ugarte
A more realistic option could be Ugarte, who has struggled to make a huge impact since joining United two years ago.
He spends much of his time kicking around on the bench and wouldn’t really be missed if he left Old Trafford for another club.
That said, it seems unlikely that Liverpool would be willing to take him, given that he probably isn’t good enough to replace Mac Allister.
Mason Mount
Another player who could be included in any part-exchange deal is Mount, who has shown glimpses of brilliance for United over the course of this season.
However, he is yet to really deliver on his true potential and may feel that Merseyside would be a better place to progress his career.
Of course, moving to Anfield would risk him becoming hated by United fans, while it’s uncertain if Liverpool would even be interested in taking him on board.
