Man Utd have found the next Casemiro in green light for £44m transfer | Football | Sport
Manchester United have been given the green light by one of their own players in their reported transfer chase for Wolves star Joao Gomes. United are said to have shown interest in signing Gomes during the January transfer window. They may even only need to shell out £44million to secure the Brazilian’s services in the New Year.
Gomes has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with the rumours intensifying as the January window approaches. United are expected to be in the market for a new midfielder, with several names being thrown into the mix, including Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson.
Given the ongoing speculation, it might be prudent for United to consider Gomes, who would not only be significantly cheaper than Ruben Amorim’s other reported targets, but he also comes highly recommended by his Brazilian colleague Matheus Cunha.
Cunha, who swapped Wolves for United in the summer, has experience playing alongside Gomes from their time at Molineux.
The 26-year-old revealed in an interview last July why he saw similarities between Gomes and United star Casemiro, who would later become his teammate for both club and country.
The United No. 10 also hinted at why Gomes would be a welcome addition to Amorim’s squad, describing the midfielder as ‘humble’ and someone who makes him feel ‘secure’ on the pitch.
When questioned about comparisons for Gomes, Cunha responded: “Maybe Casemiro. He is a bit older now, but I put Casemiro’s name there only to show where Joao Gomes could arrive.
“I think Joao has the possibility to arrive. He is very humble, and he works a lot. The good teams come like a gift when you do that.
“He is unbelievable on the pitch,” he continued. “I feel very secure. I feel like I can lose the ball when I have my midfielders behind me. He played very well for the national team, too.”
