Man Utd player ratings vs Crystal Palace: Trio not good enough as Red Devils lose again | Football | Sport

Manchester United slipped to yet another home defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace, with Jean-Phillipe Mateta bagging a brilliant brace to claim the spoils for the visitors.

The towering Frenchman poked home from close range in the second half before adding another in the closing stages, ensuring Palace took home all three points.

Just before the second goal, Lisandro Martinez was stretchered off after twisting his knee in a worrying moment for the hosts.

It was the same old story for United, who failed to assert themselves in the match and were made to pay for their shortcomings. They are yet to click under Ruben Amorim and there is little sign that things will start to improve any time soon.

Express Sport brings you the United player ratings on another tough day for the Red Devils…

Man Utd player ratings vs Crystal Palace

Andre Onana – 6

Made a strong save to deny Mateta early on. Could have done little to stop either goal, with the vast majority of blame falling on his defenders.

Leny Yoro – 6

Did okay on the right side of United’s back three. His early block denied Tyrick Mitchell a certain goal. Looked promising on the ball but could have done better to stay in position for Palace’s late second.

Harry Maguire – 4

Got caught napping for the first goal, failing to track Mateta as the Palace forward raced through. Was too slow to catch the Frenchman when he doubled his tally in the closing stages. A poor display.

Lisandro Martinez – 6

Often found his way out of trouble with some clever passes, but had a few nervy moments at the back. Was stretchered off in floods of tears with a potentially serious injury late on. Sad to see.

Noussair Mazraoui – 5

Struggled with the dual threat of Mitchell and Daichi Kamada down Palace’s left side. Yoro was forced into a good block to deny Mitchell an early goal. Replaced in the second half after a muted display.

Bruno Fernandes – 6

Got away with one in the first half after gifting the ball to Palace with a misplaced pass. Tried hard to make things happen but struggled to influence the game as much as he would have liked. Booked for dissent after the opening goal.

Manuel Ugarte – 6

Battled hard in the engine room. Nearly scored with a half-volley after the break but was denied by a smart save. Booked for a heavy challenge in the closing stages and was replaced late on.

Diogo Dalot – 4

Struggled to move forward and was just as shaky defensively. Looked short on confidence thoughout and struggled to make the right decisions at both ends of the pitch. Not good enough yet again.

Alejandro Garnacho – 6

Had an early attempt blocked and caused problems with his crossing from out wide. Was quieter in the second half and struggled to step up when the going got tough.

Amad Diallo – 6

Was unlucky not to get an assist with a sumptous delivery into the box which Yoro failed to connect with. Looked lively and put a shift in without doing enough to influence the result.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6

Played up front in a surprise move. Struck the post early on but his hold-up play left a lot to be desired. Showed glimpses of promise but is clearly not a natural forward. Hooked with 20 minutes remaining.

Substitutes

Joshua Zirkzee – 6

Came on for the last 20 minutes and ran around a bit without doing much of note.

Rasmus Hojlund – 6

As above, not a great deal to write home about despite trying to make things happen.

Matthijs de Ligt – n/a

Replaced the injured Martinez in the closing stages.

Christian Eriksen – n/a

Came on for the final minutes.
