Man Utd plot Conor Gallagher transfer and decide on Carlos Baleba double swoop | Football | Sport
Manchester United are eyeing a surprise swoop for England international Conor Gallagher as a Plan B for Carlos Baleba. United manager Ruben Amorim is strengthen to bolster his midfield and has set his sights on Gallagher. Baleba of Brighton has been on the Red Devils’ radar over the past year, but a hefty price tag of approximately £110million has deterred them.
The United hierarchy are now exploring alternative options, viewing Gallagher as an ideal successor for Casemiro, who is anticipated to depart Old Trafford next summer. Former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher transferred to Atletico Madrid in a £36m deal in 2024.
However, after making 50 appearances in his first season with the Spanish giants, he has only started two matches this season. Atletico manager Diego Simeone remains unconvinced about Gallagher’s value to his squad and may be open to selling him.
It is believed that Atletico’s president, Enrique Cerezo, values Gallagher at around £50m. If made available, the 25-year-old would draw attention from several English clubs including United.
It is understood that securing Champions League qualification would enhance United’s chances of enticing Gallagher to Old Trafford next summer.
Gallagher was omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s most recent England squad, and he is worried that his limited game time in Spain could jeopardise his chances of participating in next summer’s World Cup.
