Man Utd prepared to sell four players as Ruben Amorim faces major dilemma | Football | Sport
Manchester United are reportedly willing to sell Kobbie Mainoo, Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte and Tyrell Malacia in January. None of the players have been regular starters this season, with United enjoying a return to form in recent weeks.
United struggled during the early part of the season, with Amorim coming under huge pressure following a Carabao Cup defeat against League Two Grimsby in August. But the Red Devils have lost just one of their last seven Premier League matches and have climbed to seventh in the table. And Amorim will be keen to use the January transfer window to take his team to the next level.
According to ESPN, United will listen to offers for Mainoo, Zirkzee, Ugarte and Malacia.
But Amorim is facing a major dilemma as he will be left short of players if he allows any of them to move on before he has brought in fresh faces.
United will be lacking numbers over the festive period as Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui are set to play at the Africa Cup of Nations, which gets underway just before Christmas.
The final of the tournament is due to be played on Sunday, January 18, which could leave the Red Devils short of options well into the New Year. So Amorim may have to delay and departures until he once again has a full squad to choose from.
United could delve into the transfer market to bring in reinforcements in January, with Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Angelo Stiller said to be on the club’s radar.
And if the Red Devils hierarchy can unlock some funds, the club could make a move for one of those midfield targets.
Amorim spoke about the January transfer window at the end of October after being pressed for his thoughts.
And the Portuguese coach explained: “A lot of things can happen. Even in our club – and you know that we have the World Cup – some players are not playing, they will ask to leave. So I have to manage everything.
“We want to bring players, everyone here, we want to bring players that we can see a big future in Manchester United.
“We are not just buying one guy, because now we feel in December that we need this kind of player for now. We want to buy players that we know we are not going to change a lot of times. So that is our idea.
“I don’t know what is going to happen, but of course we think about how we can improve the team, and in January the window is open, we can do something.”
