Man Utd star called out in live TV rant – ‘Never wear the shirt again’ | Football | Sport
Ex-Premier League boss Tim Sherwood has doubled down on his view that Benjamin Sesko isn’t up to scratch for Manchester United, despite the forward bagging a brace in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Burnley. Sesko found the net twice in the second period at Turf Moor, putting Darren Fletcher’s side in front following Ayden Heaven’s earlier own goal. Jaidon Anthony then equalised shortly afterwards to earn the hosts a share of the spoils.
For Sesko, these were his first goals for United since finding the back of the net in the 2-0 triumph over Sunderland on October 4. The striker had been sidelined for four matches with a knee problem before enduring a five-game goal drought. His opener against Burnley showcased classic centre-forward instincts as he pounced on Bruno Fernandes‘ through ball, whilst his second saw him expertly finish Patrick Dorgu’s delivery into the area.
He nearly claimed his maiden hat-trick in England, only to be thwarted by Martin Dubravka.
Following the match, Sky Sports analysed the striker’s display at Burnley, with Jamie Redknapp offering glowing praise. Sherwood, however, wasn’t convinced and was reminded that he’d suggested Sesko should be substituted at the interval.
“I think the positive is Sesko scoring two goals,” he said. “Hopefully he gets some confidence from that. He’s took six months to turn up at Man United. I am pleased for the lad, he has had a tough run of it.
“I had him off the pitch at half time, never wear a Man United shirt again. I stand by what I say, he’s not good enough to play for Man United.
“He’s turned up for one game against Burnley who are going to get relegated. Fair play to him, hopefully he gets some confidence and we start seeing something different from him.”
Gary Neville was full of praise for Sesko following his clever finish from Dorgu’s delivery. “Bingo time for Benjamin Sesko,” he remarked.
“We’ve not seen him smile much and his team-mates are revelling in it with him.
“He’s got in between the centre-backs all night, and he does it again. That’s a really good finish. Manchester United have been really good in this second half.”
