Man Utd star demands January transfer after being left ‘deeply frustrated and confused’ | Football | Sport

Joshua Zirkzee is ‘deeply frustrated’ at Manchester United and wants to leave in the January window, according to reports. The young Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford last summer and marked his Premier League debut with a late winner against Fulham. It sparked hope that he would bang in plenty of goals for United but so far that has not materialised.

The forward has only scored seven times in 53 appearances for the Red Devils, leading to him falling out of favour. Zirkzee has barely had a kick since Benjamin Sesko arrived from RB Leipzig over the summer. This season, he has played just 74 minutes in the Premier League without scoring or assisting.

Zirkzee has grown ‘deeply frustrated’ with his lack of minutes and there is a ‘great deal of confusion’ as to why he is not being selected by Ruben Amorim, according to the Daily Mail.

The report states that he is desperate to secure a January exit in order to boost his chances of making the Netherlands squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Napoli wanted to sign Zirkzee in the summer, but United decided against letting him leave the club. Rasmus Hojlund ended up joining the Italian giants on loan and has enjoyed a resurgence there, scoring four goals in six games.

A move away from United is seen as ‘absolutely crucial’ for Zirkzee to revive his career in a similar way, with the player harbouring real concerns about being left at home by Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman.

His frustration is said to have ‘escalated significantly’ over the last few weeks. The striker was left as an unused substitute for the fourth time in seven Premier League games in the recent victory over Sunderland.

It remains to be seen if Zirkzee’s situation will change if Amorim is relieved of his duties in the near future. The under-fire United boss is facing a battle to save his job after overseeing a dreadful start to the new campaign.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher recently said that he thinks Amorim will be gone by Christmas, arguing that his position is no longer tenable.

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, he said: “I don’t like saying a manager should be sacked, it’s disrespectful and it’s a man’s job, but I’m at that point where I do think Ruben Amorim‘s job is untenable.

“It’s inevitable that this is going to happen before Christmas. His stats are unbelievable for a Manchester United manager. 50 games as Manchester United manager, he’s only scored two more goals than he’s conceded.”
