Man Utd stars rally behind Rasmus Hojlund after new cryptic message | Football | Sport
Manchester United stars have rallied around Rasmus Hojlund after the striker netted his fourth goal in six games for Napoli. The 22-year-old, currently on loan at the Serie A side, scored the decisive goal in a 2-1 victory over Genoa, propelling Antonio Conte’s team to the top of the league.
Hojlund has had a stellar start since making the temporary switch to Italy, with Napoli having an obligation-to-buy clause agreed with United to make the move permanent next summer. His time at Old Trafford was marked by inconsistency, and the arrival of Benjamin Sesko saw him fall further down the pecking order, prompting his move to Napoli.
Following his latest goal, Hojlund posted a celebratory picture on Instagram with the caption: “Apparently it takes two to tango.” This cryptic message could be interpreted as a response to his critics back at Old Trafford.
United captain Harry Maguire was among those showing their support, responding with a star-struck emoji. Several other teammates from Old Trafford, including Matthijs de Ligt, Andre Onana, Joshua Zirkzee, Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes, also liked the post, along with young players Ayden Heaven and Ethan Wheatley.
Speaking about the young striker, Conte told Gazetta dello Sport: “He’s a 22-year-old who was on the sidelines at Manchester United. He has significant room for improvement; he needs to work because he has the potential to become a star, and he’s proving it.”
Hojlund said he would return to Italy as a different player when he signed for Napoli in August: He said: “It’s different now, obviously, as I come with more experience and I’m a better football player. I come with a lot of international experience.
“I played in the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, and in multiple countries. I come with a lot to prove. I want to show myself in the best team in Italy, and Napoli is going to be very, very good.
“I’ve been looking forward to this opportunity, I’m very, very grateful, and I’m going to do my best to make us win something this year again, and to do the fans and club proud.”
