Man Utd target PSG star as Marcus Rashford replacement list drawn up | Football | Sport
Manchester United have reportedly drawn up a list of five potential successors to Marcus Rashford ahead of the upcoming campaign. The England striker looks increasingly likely to conclude his Old Trafford tenure following his loan switch to Barcelona earlier this year, after a troubled period under former manager Ruben Amorim.
The Spanish champions possess an option to secure the transfer permanently for £26million this summer, with mounting indications suggesting the clause will be triggered, according to recent reports. Rashford has already expressed his wish to remain in Spain following a smooth transition. “It’s been amazing. I feel welcome, I feel at home,” he stated towards the end of last year. “I’ve just been enjoying every step of the way. Learning the language, learning the culture – it’s all enjoyable for me. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and this is the perfect opportunity.”
However, he will need to accept a considerable wage cut owing to the club’s reported financial constraints. According to Spanish publication Sport, Rashford’s displays in La Liga have ‘fully convinced’ the club’s hierarchy, with the forward establishing himself as a key component of Hansi Flick’s attacking setup. The 28-year-old has netted 10 goals and contributed 13 assists across 37 matches since his arrival at the club last summer.
Preparing to say goodbye to their homegrown star, United are evaluating different alternatives, with the report highlighting a number of players in their sights. Prioritising younger prospects, United are understood to have RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande featured on their radar, alongside Jesus Rodriguez, who is experiencing a superb campaign with Como 1907. Strasbourg’s winger Martial Godo has also emerged as a potential target.
United are reportedly keeping tabs on Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye as well, believing he can provide one-on-one danger whilst bringing invaluable Premier League experience. Nevertheless, the report indicates that Paris Saint-Germain’s forward Bradley Barcola stands out as the most notable candidate on their list.
The 23-year-old is regarded as amongst Europe’s brightest emerging talents and has already secured multiple honours at the Parc des Princes. Securing European qualification will prove crucial in enticing younger players, and United appear well-positioned to achieve those spots – presently occupying third place in the Premier League.
Rashford has already secured his maiden trophy as a Barcelona player following their 3-2 triumph against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final. He stands to collect further silverware, with the Blaugrana leading La Liga by four points ahead of Madrid.
