Man Utd team news and predicted XI vs Liverpool as two stars dropped | Football | Sport
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is running over his squad as he prepares to take on Premier League champions Liverpool at Anfield. He is aiming for back-to-back victories for the first time in his tenure and there would be no greater statement than securing that achievement on Merseyside.
With another exhausting international break separating this clash and the 2-0 win over Sunderland last time out, Amorim has watched his squad jet off all over the globe to compete in every corner of the world for their countries. Some have returned tired and been given time off by the Portuguese tactician as a result, leading them to become doubts for Sunday’s match.
Here, Express Sport has given our predicted lineup for the always-heated clash.
Manchester United predicted XI vs Liverpool (3-4-3)
Goalkeeper: Lammens
Senne Lammens’ first league start came with a clean sheet in a positive beginning to life on Manchester. He showed no reason why Altay Bayindir should come back in, though Amorim has cautioned supporters from declaring him a United legend already.
“First impressions matter, but consistency is harder,” Amorim said in his pre-match press conference. “He’s not [Peter] Schmeichel yet, a composed young talent. Fans liked him, but he must prove himself next game.”
Defence: Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw
A clean sheet last time out means no changes to the back three that started against Sunderland. Harry Maguire will be pushing to play and Lisandro Martinez is closing in on a return, but is not thought to be ready to feature just yet.
Midfield: Dalot, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu
Both Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro were absent from team training on Thursday as Amorim insisted he was being “careful” with his star midfielders. He is reportedly considering starting Manuel Ugarte, who did not go away on international duty, but at Anfield, Amorim needs his key duo in the middle of the pitch.
Meanwhile, Patrick Dorgu should come back in for Amad, while Diogo Dalot switches flanks, to provide more defensive stability.
Attack: Mbeumo, Sesko, Cunha
Amad and Mason Mount can have reasonable arguments to start, with Matheus Cunha the least likely of the attacking trio to start, following his return from injury and international excursions.
But United will need their strongest attacking trident and that forces Mount and Amad onto the bench, though they will certainly be required from the bench.
Counter-attacks may be United’s best hope and Benjamin Sesko has already caused Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate problems in that area with RB Leipzig.
