Man Utd to ‘re-evaluate’ Victor Osimhen bid as two other deals eyed alongside Bryan Mbuemo | Football | Sport
Manchester United could ‘re-evaluate’ a pursuit of Victor Osimhen if their attacking overhaul extends beyond the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, according to reports. The Red Devils are understood to have been prioritising other targets due to Osimhen’s extortionate wage demands, but senior figures at Old Trafford have not had it all their own way this summer.
Liam Delap was their top centre-forward target but the 22-year-old is on the verge of being announced as a new Chelsea player. United have confirmed the £62.5million arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and Mbeumo has reportedly given the green light over a move to Old Trafford from Brentford, but it is not crystal clear where each player would fit into Ruben Amorim‘s front-three.
And the potential need for an out-and-out No. 9 could drive them back towards Osimhen. According to The Athletic, the Nigerian’s wage demands have stood in the way of United chiefs firming up their interest, but a ‘re-evaluation’ may take place as the window unfolds.
Osimhen spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, scoring 26 goals in 30 league games. And he is certain to be moved on this summer after a souring of relations with parent club Napoli.
The 26-year-old’s Azzurri contract is believed to include a £63.3m release clause for clubs outside of Italy. Osimhen has also been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Al-Hilal.
United chiefs have reportedly been eyeing two other attacking deals after watching Amorim’s side struggle in front of goal all season. Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, who worked with Amorim in Portugal, is a prominent fixture on their hit list.
The Swede scored more league goals than any other player in Europe last campaign and he could be available for around £60m. Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo is also a player INEOS have ‘looked at‘ on the back of his impressive season on the south coast.
The Red Devils have been active in the early stages of the summer transfer window, but their prospects of luring in the cream of the crop have been hampered by missing out on Champions League qualification.
A number of high-profile stars are set to be auctioned off in order to fund United’s transfer spree. Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Rasmus Hojlund are all on the chopping block, while the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes have also been linked with moves elsewhere.
