Man Utd told to ban Marcus Rashford as Paul Scholes lets loose and airs honest thoughts | Football | Sport

Paul Scholes has called for Manchester United to banish Marcus Rashford from the team’s dressing room amid his recent exclusion Ruben Amorim‘s matchday squads.

Rashford was notably absent again in the lineup against Fulham on Sunday, an 11th successive game in which he hasn’t featured.

Amorim later claimed that he would prefer to include his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach, Jorge Vital, on the bench rather than any player unwilling to give 100 per cent in response to a question about the United No. 10.

Despite a brief return to the bench for the Newcastle United defeat on December 30, Rashford has been absent for every single game since the Manchester derby last month.

The situation escalated when the 27-year-old hinted at being ready for a “new challenge” after being dropped for the clash with Manchester City, which intensified growing discontent towards him among fans.

His lack of playing time has fuelled speculation about potential transfers to clubs like Barcelona, AC Milan, AS Monaco, Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham, and West Ham United.

With the transfer window closing at 11pm on February 3, Scholes has recommended that Rashford be excluded from the dressing room until then.

Scholes voiced his disappointment at the situation on The Overlap Fan Debate, stating: “I think Marcus has let a lot of people down with his attitude, and I think that’s what the manager is trying to say.

‘You think of the young players coming through and think of Garnacho. They’re looking up to people like Marcus now.

“He’s 27, he’s clearly not training properly and not living his life properly. They’re the examples these people should look at.

“I remember when I told the manager [Sir Alex Ferguson] I didn’t want to play against Arsenal in the cup.

“In the meeting afterwards, I thought I was going to get a b*****king here, but he said to me, ‘The worst thing you did was let your teammates down’, and that stuck with me.

“I wasn’t really thinking about that and now I think Marcus Rashford is doing the exact same. Ok, he’s not refusing to play, but the way he is behaving and the way he’s training…

“In a way, he’s saying he doesn’t want to be involved with the team, and the fact he’s letting his teammates down means he should be banished from the dressing room.

“If he’s in and around that and young people are seeing him as an example, the sooner he’s gone, the better.”

Rashford last played against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on December 12, but he appeared in high spirits when journalists attended open training at Carrington last week.
