Marcus Rashford agreement reached in fresh Man Utd transfer verdict | Football | Sport
Marcus Rashford’s stunning revival at Barcelona has left former Manchester United stars Gordon Strachan and Wes Brown in agreement that the club made the correct decision in allowing him to depart. One could comprehend why United might harbour a hint of remorse for letting the player go following his scintillating run of form in Catalonia.
Rashford, 28, has contributed directly to 15 goals during his opening 16 appearances for Barcelona, serving as a reminder to supporters in Manchester of his true potential. Moreover, the £28million it would reportedly require for the Blaugrana to secure that transfer permanently appears increasingly like a steal with each passing week.
However, whilst some United supporters might feel they are losing out, both Strachan and Brown remain adamant that United took the correct approach in loaning out the player.
The duo pointed to Rashford’s recent displays for Thomas Tuchel’s England as additional evidence that the proper choice was taken.
“Marcus Rashford was very good for England last week, but I maintain that Manchester United were right to part way with him,” Strachan told Esports News.
“The time was right for both parties to move on, and it’s been proven to have been the right decision.
“Rashford was struggling at United, and it seemed as if he didn’t have Ruben Amorim‘s full confidence; he wasn’t getting a lot of game time, but in the minutes that he did play, I think it’s fair to say he didn’t prove the doubters wrong.
“I’m pleased to see him thriving at Barcelona. It’s always been clear that he’s a gifted player – there’s never been any question about that. The transfer has advanced his career and also enabled United to progress, rather than being caught in a dressing room quandary.”
Rashford spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at Aston Villa, where he showed a marked improvement in form after a period of stagnation under United boss Ruben Amorim. Before this, he was reprimanded by the club in January 2024 for missing training following a raucous night out in Belfast.
A change of environment seems to have done wonders for Rashford, who is now resembling more of the player United had hoped he would become. And Brown thinks both parties can be satisfied with how things are panning out.
He told BetWright casino: “Marcus Rashford was always destined to excel after moving away from Manchester United. He’d been at the club for numerous years and not all those years would have been pleasant for Marcus, especially the last couple.
“He received a lot of flak from people towards the end of last season, so I don’t fault him for seeking a change, and I believe his departure suited United as well. No one anticipated that he would leave and perform poorly, but he simply wasn’t in the right mindset to deliver at United – it wasn’t working.”
The treble-winner went on to back Rashford in keeping his place as part of Tuchel’s England squad and predicted he’ll have “a great World Cup” next year. The Three Lions qualified at the top of their group with a perfect record, and Rashford wrapped up the campaign by assisting Harry Kane in a 2-0 win over Albania.
